I have a custom post type for Events and I’m looking for the best way to build a layout that shows the next upcoming event at the top as a hero, and then all subsequent events in a standard grid below. With Elements I can create most of it and I even used a pre_get_posts function to sort the **grid** by a custom event_date… that all works.

The problem is that I can’t find a way to use that custom event_date field to show that single one for the hero. I have an events hero hooked element using advanced text and advanced image to show the “current post”, which seems to just use the latest one from the standard query (by post date I assume).

Should I be using a custom page instead of an archive with hooked elements? If so, how do I build that hero to show the next upcoming event by custom event_date? I’ve tried Post Grid/Carousel block but it’s not really made for a single result.

Is the best way to create an archive-events.php file and do it all manually?

Hi,

I’m trying to make a lengthy paragraph shorter with a “Read More” option that will expand the paragraph when clicked on. So I tried to use the Read More tag on a portfolio page and it is showing the entire paragraph.

What is the best way to do this?

Where can we find information on the features that work with Kadence Block and ACF Pro because it seems to me that apart from the text field not much works (Creating an option page with ACF does not work) (Creating a custom cpt in functions.php is not recognized)

Hi overthere!

New customer here, collecting experience with Kadence and telling you my first impression regarding this topic 🙂

I can’t urge enough to make this topic a high priority, since GDPR compliance is a thing in Germany and the first verdict$/$entences were stated, which require the visitor to opt in to google maps / videos / fonts etc and website owner are and come under pressure.

I just installed the https://www.kadencewp.com/kadence-theme/starters/travel-blog/ and tried to get rid of the google fonts. Installed the Custom Fonts Plugin but I found it super tedious to add every single size/style including uploading the fonts. Imagine using 4 Fonttypes with 2 sizes each and italic or bold. Unfortunately this makes this plugin complete unusable for me.

So I was glad that I could add a snippet in the functions.php of the child theme.

In the customer I switched all occurences Header/Footer/Single/Archive but then I realised that I had to track down all occurences of the font I wanted to replace, since this could be overwritten on the elements. So for last element on the Startpage I had to go to the post caroussel in there and set the font for “Read More” in the block. Unfortunately it was not in the drop down box of the caroussel block. So I had to set it to System Font. See Bug Report at the end 🙂

So my Startpage does not load google fonts anymore, but the blog posts do, despite I set everything in the customizer to my custom fonts. For now I fiddled around quite a time (including searching and writing this forum post). And I am really not happy with this solution since this makes your wonderful starter themes and all the ideas and possibilities attached to this a bummer, at least for your german/european customers. In another blog post here a I read that the Ascend Premium theme has the option to load google fonts locally. Kirki Framework does this as well – uses/imports all google fonts locally just with a click.

If I did oversee something and you know a better approach, please let me know. Otherwise: Please make this a priority topic to add a convenient possibility to store and use Google Fonts locally and hopefully something to switch all occurences of a font in a starter theme in one place.

Bug-Report: My Font from the functions.php added via kadence_theme_add_custom_fonts can be chosen in the customizer but not in the block on a page itself. This seems to be true for all the blocks. If I add it with the Custom Font Plugin it is possible. Sidenote: Fonts from functions.php are showing on the first position within the in the customizer font dropdown but not with the categegory “Custom Fonts” opposed to Fonts added via the plugin.

Thank you for your answer. I watched your video. The sequence of steps there is wrong. You can’t throw the error that way.

Sory. Site is still under construction, so i posted a fake link. Only parameters had meaning in that URLs.
Params clearly indicate the nature of the problem ({filter params} + {page} = error 404).

Here are real links.
The first – shop made in a standard way (with sidebar). This throw the error. I’m not sure but I saw on some forums that this is problem of compatibility woocommerce with the theme.

Second – shop made as a custom page (without sidebar – all done right on the page using “all-products” block) This does not throw the error.

Steps to throw error (testcase)
1) Load page of https://www.cristalvento.ru/shop/
2) Go to second page by pager on bottom of the page
3) Apply any filter
4) Watch error 404

PS: try also scroll dropdown listbox of any filter by using only mouse click (without wheel). It is impossible. As i see any click immediately scroll listbox back to top. I think though it is woocommerce bug.

Is there an option to add a block of featured products easily? I’d like the customer to just click the ‘star’ icon in the products list and these will then be featured in a row of 3 chosen products on the homepage for example. I can’t see any options for that in Shopkit. Thank you for your help in advance!

Hi Ninon,

Are you trying to hide the text (Leave a Reply Logged in as…. Edit your profile. Log out? Required fields are marked *) section to a Single Post to replace with the customized comments section that you’re creating? If so, you can hide the section by disabling the “Show Comments?” option when you go to Customize > Posts/Pages Layout > Single Post Layout.

And the pictures stay down…
However, the product on which I am testing has all the images in a 1:1 ratio

In order to see how the issue happens, I tried replicating it on my website. However, the pagination works fine even with an active filter – https://share.getcloudapp.com/nOu1g2gO.

Kindly do the initial troubleshooting steps so you can pinpoint the cause of the issue:

Lastly, have you reached out to your hosting provider to help you check your .htaccess file? It’s possible that there are some rules there that affect the pagination.

I have the theme configured with sticky header. This works fine but with a screen width between 992px and 1009px the id=”kad-mobile-banner-sticky-wrapper” doesn’t show. If you have a higher size and resize everything works. But if you refresh the page in this range of width the header is static.

Hello, thank you all for your help. I was able to get past all of deleting all of the image titles by using a php code via a code snippet plug in. I have a different question involving product image gallery on the product page. I switched it over to vertical but it’s not switching. I will place this question in a different thread If I still can’t figure it out after doing some digging.

Thanks for sending that. It’s still causing issues as some of the red colour appears in different areas.

However, I’ve worked out a better way to do it which is just target the page-id on my main pages with the red, keeping all the other colours the default. Thanks for your help though, this will surely prove useful in the future with something.
