    Hi Karla,

Yes, I have the full bundle. Question after watching the video: When using the Kadence Child Theme Builder, does the source child theme have to remain online after it has been imported into the target site? And once imported, does the new site have full editing capabilities (including the ability to change the design of the theme)?

Thanks for what looks like a great product, with lots of capabilities to try and get my mind around.

    Hello Greg,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Just to confirm, do you have the full bundle? If so, you can use our Kadence Child Theme Builder to customize and brand a child theme that you can sell to your clients. Here’s a video you can refer to regarding this – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qsPHrOd1qY.

Hope this helps and let us know if we can assist you further.

    Best Regards,

    Hello all,
I’m working on adding a new menu item on this site:

My client wants a new partner link/partner page to the right of the About menu item. You’ll be able to click on partner link to see all the content.

Problem is, the client is separate from the SNAP AP group. I don’t have access to SNAP APs login/pass details. Can’t get into the main site linked above.

I’ve been given login into to a sub-section? child? separate entirely? site:

Question is. If I use the Virtue Theme and build the partner page, will I be able to send something to the actual SNAP AP group or later add that menu item on the actual page? How does that work? Or do I need access to their servers/host and should I be building it all within the actual site?

    Thank you
    Rich

Asked in Facebook group and was referred here.

Hello, new Kadence Pro user here. I am coming from many years of building sites with Genesis Framework and so am conditioned to working in a Parent/Child theme environment. I know that this is usually not a requirement with Kadence but I’m curious about how to replicate some of the benefits of working in a child theme:

    1. The theme can be branded for my client, using their name and screenshot.
    2. The theme has its own external stylesheet. I find the CSS editor in the Customizer to be very hard to organize once it has more than a few styles in it.
    3. Is it really, really safe to be updating the theme where all of my customizations live? (Yes, I do have backups.)

FWIW, opinions on Facebook are running in favor of child themes.

On my one site (currently in staging) , I’m having a bit of a struggle with the footer. The middle row has three columns, and I’m using Widget 1, Widget 2, and Widget 3 WP core areas to add the inner content.

The issue is with the mobile settings, specifically row collapse layout & order. Right now, it’s set for three vertical 100% rows. Which would work… except a block within Widget 1 is NOT centering like the rest of the widget contents. (it’s a non Kadence block, so I’m trying to figure a way to target & tweak that with CSS… if I can resolve that, then this issue may be moot.)

However, the entire issue would be resolved if there was a layout for MIDDLE ROW 100%, with the left & right at 50% below (or even above) the other two. Nearly identical to the current First Row 100% & 50/50 split layout, or the reverse Last Row 100% & 50/50 split. I don’t know Customiser at all, so not even sure where to begin to target this myself within my child theme.

The reason I’m wanting this is because I have a navigation menu on the left, social media icons on the right, and a subscribe box in the middle. I feel this is a layout option that many other users could benefit from as well because it allows us to focus on the middle column first/last.

After another look, it’s also something that actually could benefit ALL mobile layouts, ie Row Layout Blocks even – not just within the footer! (I can submit a feature request for that, if that would help)

    Thanks!

Hello Karla. I checked Archive Custom Page Title Backgrounds pro addon enabled lots of time. I have this special fields in categories, but no images on frontend part are shown. But on local machine everything is working. The difference is that on local I am using kadence templates, and on server I am not using them and using kadence child theme builder.

Show Archive Title enabled. It is showing title, but not showing breadcrumbs and not showing images and other options in customizer are not working. But on local everything is working.

I will create access for you in next message and link to screen record.

Hello friends. I am new here and only started to use your great product. Maybe my problem is easy so I need your help.

First I tried free version of kadence theme + starter template for woocommerce shop on local machine. In customizer in archive product page in design I added background image to title and breadcrumbs and everything was great. Then I purchased membership and added kadence pro with woo extras. I received a possibility to add custom image background to each category and everything was great and working.
    .
Then I started server version from scratch. Installed latest kadence theme, then I decided to use child theme builder and did like on kadence youtube video. I decided not to use starter templates.
    .
    Now I have latest:

    Code Snippets
    Kadence Blocks – PRO Extension
Kadence Blocks – Gutenberg Blocks for Page Builder Features
Kadence Pro – Premium addon for the Kadence Theme
    Kadence WooCommerce Extras
    WooCommerce

    This is woocommerce status
    Theme
    Name: Batik shop
    Version: 1_0_1
    Author URL: e/
    Child theme:
    Parent theme name: Kadence
    Parent theme version: 1.1.3
    Parent theme author URL:
    WooCommerce support: yes

SO PROBLEM: I can’t added background image to title and breadcrumbs in archive products and can’t add custom image in product categories like I did on local machine when I was using starter template of shop from kadence. They are just not shown. What is missing? What is the setting difference between child theme and starter template?

Will bу glad for your help
    – site with problem.

    Hello,

If you do not want to use/create a child theme to add the scripts on the header and footer, you can use third-party plugins like Insert Headers and Footers for faster and easier implementation.

Hope this helps and let us know if we can assist you further.

    Best Regards,
    Karla

    Hello,

The best way for you would be how you’re setting about now with a child theme and following the template hierarchy.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

That is not considered the best practice but sure you can do that. What type of scripts are you adding though? Please note that any changes to the theme files would get overwritten on your next theme update. So I suggest you make use of Child themeing instead to add your custom codes: https://kadence-theme.com/knowledge-base/advanced/what-is-a-child-theme-should-i-install-one-if-so-how/

I hope this helps and let us know how we could help you further.

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

There is no built-in way or hook to edit the text for the Comments meta. What you could do is copy the kadence/template-parts/title/meta.php file in a child theme with the same folder destination. Then, override the child theme file’s code to add a condition to show the “Leave A Comment” text if there are 0 comments.

Hope this helps and let us know if we can assist you further.

    Regards,
    Karla

    Hello,

Does that mean that a Kadnece child theme will not function when using optimizing applications for caching or combining css files so the site performs better?

No, the child theme will function. The point of some optimizations is to make the loading of your websites faster by saving the resources in a single or fewer file. However, you have to make sure that after changing anything(updates, custom CSS codes change, etc), you’ll have to purge your cache so that those resources will be refreshed, will include your changes, and will reflect on your pages.

Hope this clarifies and let us know if we can assist you further.

    Regards,
    Karla

    Thanks for your reply, Hannah!

Child themes are intriguing but unfortunately do not address this issue of re-usable page designs …

So, am I to understand that once a satisfactory Kadence page design has been built (either from scratch, or modified from a Starter Pack page design, etc.), Kadence offers NO provision to use that same page design/structure elsewhere on the site for other pages?

And that, instead, every single new page on the site must be similarly built from scratch?

    Appreciate any advice!

    #267563

Both pages and posts take content from same single.php. Looks like it is connected with many functions and their hooks. What would be the simplest way to separate the two?

    #267544

    Hey,
Are you familiar with the Kadence Child Theme Builder? It seems that may work well for you. You can learn about it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qsPHrOd1qY
Let me know if this doesn’t work for you!

    UPDATE!

I was able to transfer over the pieces of the original functions that were being affected by the update. Now I’m back to normal, but still unsure of what will happen next time there is an update. Now that I have a child theme on my site, and that child theme is the one being edited from now on, is it safe to say that future parent theme updates will not cause a loss in functionality without needing to make manual changes? I’ve saved all of the snippets in question to a txt file, in the event that manual changes are required but I want to make sure that I am not setting myself up for failure. This has turned out to be another one of those situations where the site works how I want it to, but I’m not fully confident in my understanding of why.

    Thanks again.

    #267505

I’m fairly new, and self-taught using forums, blogs and videos. I’ve tried to find my solution, but that fruitless effort led me to wonder if I don’t fully understand what the child theme does.

As I understood it, I make a child theme so that all of the custom functionality is saved when the parent theme is updated. I learned the hard way on several occasions up to this point, and yesterday’s update was no different :). When I applied the update (without a child theme installed), I did lose the special functions that had been added so far. I restored a backup, then followed the docs for Kadence Child Theme Builder, and figured I was good to go. With the parent theme installed, and the newly created child theme activated, I applied the new Kadence update, and got the same result as if the child theme was not there. Another restore, and this time I followed a guide on using a different child theme generator but ended up with the same result after updating the parent.

I then tried to copy the parent functions into the child theme functions below what was there. This locked me out of the entire backend, but I was able to restore a server side backup. I then came here and found an older forum where someone (Michael) had made a video about how to import/export the parent theme to the child, which is what I originally thought would be happening during the child’s creation. The problem, though, is that Michael’s video shows an import/export option in the customizer. Mine does not.

I’m sort of lost right now. I’m going to keep tinkering with it to see how my luck plays out, but I would really like to have a better understanding of what is happening and why. If someone could point me in the direction, or let me know that I overlooked something in all of this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, my question is based on Karla’s answer.

“…do you have any optimization plugins for caching or combining CSS files? If you do, try to deactivate the plugin and test if the child theme’s style.css changes will always reflect every after an update. Additionally, you may also want to double-check if you have any server-side caching or CDN”.

Does that mean that a Kadnece child theme will not function when using optimizing applications for caching or combining css files so the site performs better?

    Hello RG,

Thank you for reaching out to us and I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing this issue.

I tried to replicate it on my test website but I was not able to – https://share.getcloudapp.com/P8uGk7qW.

Just to confirm, do you have any optimization plugins for caching or combining CSS files? If you do, try to deactivate the plugin and test if the child theme’s style.css changes will always reflect every after an update.

Additionally, you may also want to double-check if you have any server-side caching or CDN. Please attach your website URL as well so we can check further.

Hope this helps and let us know if we can assist you further.

    Hey,
Can you ensure the child theme fully imported? Can you post a link?

    Thanks,
    Hannah
