Hi, a customer of mine is using the Ascend theme. Most of the time they remember to use a feature image for blog posts, but sometimes they forget. The issue is that the placeholder images that are generated are not loaded over HTTPS. As a result, some browsers report that the site is “not secure” on pages where these placeholder images are loaded.
`
The page at ‘…’ was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an insecure image ‘*Login to see link
This content should also be served over HTTPS.
`My questions are:
1. Is there a way to force these placeholder images to load over HTTPS?
2. If not, is there a way to stop using these placeholder images? I mostly see them on the home page and blog list page, when a post does not have a featured image set. I’d prefer to just hide the image entirely instead of loading a placeholder.I’d prefer number 2 if possible but either option would solve the issue.

I apologise but I just can’t resolve these things below, even with hours of searching and a lot of trial and error. I appreciate your support and I only come here when I’m absolutely stuck; now I’ve got my questions and answers in the forum to look back on in the future.
1/ I need the product columns (without side bar) to be 50%/50% because of how all the images were handed to me., and as a very temporary solution have added content-single-product.php to the virtue child theme and changed the if statement to 6 | 6.
Is there a correct way that I can achieve this?
2/ I’ve read *Login to see link carefully, but can’t arrive at a solution.
I have one parent category, with eventually 5 sub-categories in it and I don’t want the parent on the home page or in the shop page, just the sub-cats.
I put this on the home page page.. [product_categories parent=”104″] it didn’t seem to work, but now 12 hrs later it seems to be working (new ISP seems to have an aggressive cache that I just can’t beat).
If that shortcode is correct, then now, I just need to display the sub-cats on the shop page without the parent, followed by products.
3/ I’m trying to make the text overlay on the sub-cats to be a specific color (same as hover) but I just can’t do it. Inspect says it’s:
.product-category.grid_item a h5 { color: #ce0000; background-color: #ce0000; } but that doesn’t work.
4/ The Best Selling Products carousel?, home page on a mobile is cluttered by the bottom product detail, is there any way to show this sliding as a one whole image at a time on a mobile?Thank you, John

Thank you, Ben. I tried your third idea, and it worked until I moved the block further up the page. Then even though the aspect didn’t switch back on me, it ceased to have the same effect.
So, I tried the first option, and I like that just fine.
Thanks for your help!

March 21, 2020 at 11:34 pm #246572Hello, I’ve searched for this and found that Product Image Flip needs Category Image Aspect Ratio to be enabled.
Just to clarify, that is not 100% correct although close so for anyone else reading, you need to enable the “Enable Product Image Aspect Ratio on Catalog pages” there is no flip for Category images and you don’t need to set the Category Image Aspect Ratio.
I added 2:3 ratio to our site and I’ll make sure this is part of the next update as well so you won’t lose it.
Thanks for posting.

March 21, 2020 at 10:50 pm #246566Thanks for pointing out this bug, it has to do with trying to use a custom image size in the pinnacle image widget. I am going to push a fix out soon, in the meantime by selecting a default size the page will work. I updated so you can see.

March 21, 2020 at 9:50 pm #246565Hey,
That page is considerably faster. Not everything is about the google score you need to focus first on actual page speed. get that low (less then a second is ideal) and then tweak to make google page speed happy. Unforutanly you will never get a great score as long as you use
pagead2.googlesyndication.com: 4 components, 357.9K (135.0K GZip) www.google-analytics.com: 1 component, 45.2K (18.1K GZip) adservice.google.com: 1 component, 0.1K (0.1K GZip) partner.googleadservices.com: 1 component, 0.1K (0.1K GZip) googleads.g.doubleclick.net: 3 components, 10.5K (4.6K GZip) www.googletagservices.com: 1 component, 75.4K (27.9K GZip) widget.getyourguide.com: 1 component, 15.2K (10.4K GZip) www.facebook.com: 2 components, 0.1K tpc.googlesyndication.com: 2 componentsAll of those add dns lookups to files that are not in your control (not cached, not cookieless). If you want a high near-perfect score (again not everything is about the score) then you can’t use those things. This is where you make decisions about what’s more important.
For example, Amazon runs a purely mobile site different from the desktop so it’s more optimized for mobile and not loading anything that applies to desktop browsers. Their using the best technology and their google speed test for mobile is 57.
The point in the speed test is about best practices in an “ideal” situation, an ideal situation doesn’t have you loading ads and scripts from other servers.
So again I suggest the first thing to focus on is load time. That is what matters in the end with users, are they getting the content fast enough and can you improve that. On the page, you recently linked to it’s not a bad load time.
https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.unaufschiebbar.de/nNp2MOroTo fully loaded your at 2.3 and that isn’t bad since the site becomes readable and interactive at less than a second. Compare that with your home page (where the only difference is the images) 4.9s to fully loaded. Hopfully that explains why I would suggest you start there and focus there, you will get the most return in terms of improvement. A note about the plugin I recommended, it’s important that you not use rocket lazy load if you use that plugin, you can turn off rocket lazy load in the settings.
The main area where you can improve your score is to remove all the scripts from outside sources that track, and dynamically render ads based on the user. Likely that isn’t something will want to do or can do.
The other thing you can do is deactivate plugins, you are using a lot and so if you want a higher score you can limit what you are using. Try to find plugin that are not absolutely necessary.
I hope that helps explain some.

Thanks for your reply. I have installed nazy load but the results were more worse than before (29 to 40 for the homepage).
Also I optimized some images (like header which I reduced about 67%) on this text-page:
https://www.unaufschiebbar.de/impressum/
But the results for this page are only still at 59 for mobile devices when I tried pagespeed-mobile-test.
I can´t imagine (for this page) that the problems are mainly caused of the images. What do you think?
If you need, I can give you access to the website.
Best regards
In forum: Virtue ThemeTopic: Product Image Flip Problems
Hello, I’ve searched for this and found that Product Image Flip needs Category Image Aspect Ratio to be enabled.
However that chops off all the heads of the models, as it crops to a square non-product page image and then flips.
The aspect ratio is 2:3, people modelling clothing, and you don’t have this aspect in your options choices. The aspect is set by px in WooExtras and is really good now everywhere.. until I try to get the flip working.
Could you help with a way to get the flip working with the ratio needed please?
Thank you, John

In forum: Virtue Theme*Login to see link I used the Spotify Embed block, pasted in the URL, and the player block, which is at the bottom of the page (Not the on on the sidebar), is way too tall. How to fix?
In forum: Virtue ThemeIn reply to: Need sidebar on right on product page
March 20, 2020 at 5:49 pm #246517There is a slider on the home page, with a shortcode entered on the page.
If you want to add a slider above the sidebar add it through your theme options > home slider.

March 20, 2020 at 5:47 pm #246516I’ve found how to set the variation boxes in each product page, so that’s ok now.
There is a global setting in your woo extras, for product “variations swatches”. you can set “Choose a default swatch type” to radio box
The size chart modal keeps closing though, after ~ 1 second. I turned the slider off and it still keeps closing.
This is a bug in what settings we allow you to select, with variation products the size chart can’t be placed right above the add to cart because it causes the add to cart to trigger. I’m going to update so that the software will move it to automatically out of the form if it’s a variation product. For now I’ve set the placement to after the short description.

In forum: Pinnacle ThemeIn reply to: Portfolio grid
Hi Hannah,
No problem!
1. perfect, thanks!
2. I have a row with portfolio grid on my homepage, but i don’t like how it is showing on mobile right now. If it shows like a grid that would be nice, but right now it puts every image in a single row on mobile. This takes to much scroll time haha. So there are two options. (i added a class to the row: “HomePortfolioGrid”)
– not showing this portfolio grid row on mobile and add another row with a slider instead of a grid and show that slider on mobile and not on desktop. (if that makes sense.)
– Or showing the grid as a grid on mobile, but not sure if that is easy to do..3. Perfect!
Thanks again!
