I still see that you have insecure content loading on your site.

Can you please go to your mobile header settings and make sure the mobile logo is correctly selected and has https at the start?

I need to upload a HTML verification file to my luckoftuck.com domain (to claim ownership) but I don’t know where to do that or how to access the HTML area of my website/theme. I know this is probably super basic but would appreciate any assistance!! Thanks so much!

    Hello,

All of our themes and plugins will work fine with the latest php version. If you have concerns, be sure to backup your site before the upgrade, but you should be fine.

I suggest you contact your host and they should be able to take care of the upgrade for you.

The string replace is explained in the post that I linked to above.

“The easiest way to update all the strings in your site is to install Better Search Replace plugin, run a search, then replace through your site’s database for every instance of http://www.yourdomain.com to be replaced with https://www.yourdomain.com”

So the plugin is just searching for all instances of http on your site and replacing with https.

Also, in your first post you said that you’re using a child theme with the demo content. Unless you’re changing code, this is not necessary and you can use the parent theme to keep things simple.

    Hello,

the GDPR gives all European (and I think also many other webmasters) a lot of headeache and costs a huge amount of time to even try to comply.

One possible outcome of the legal battles just beginning (may I do this or that or not …) with the pressure of huge fines is to get PRIOR consent of visitor. I see first implementations of this on some websites, where first the visitor has to agree to privacy policy BEFORe anything interesting is loaded.

This will also become an isse when the great EU next year publishes its e-privavcy rules… concerning esp. cookies…

So for many of my websites I would love to use all I need (google maps, facebook etc…), but before anything is loaded I ask my visitor to acknowledger my privacy policy (which on click on link opens in new tab, but loads only the text in ie. Arial) … when user gives his consent by clicking the “I agree” checkbox, the website loads normally. If he is not fine with it, he may check another website

To me – am no lawyer – that would make me sleep better and I would use it for most of my sites until the dust of this battle has settled

    Hi Ben,

you have no idea how much time you saved me, would have to follow this https://www.mittwald.de/blog/mittwald/howtos/dem-datenschutz-zuliebe-wie-ihr-google-fonts-lokal-in-eure-webseiten-einbindet for what maybe 20 or so websites, each using different google fonts and versions – since you asked, mostly use Lato, Alfa Slab, Ubuntu and Roboto, but might change that in a bad mood…and then …

Just to make sure: In Typography I kept my settings (ie. Ubuntu), all I changed was this setting you created…so I can now be sure that at Least the Google Fonts will not be contacted with visitor’s IP?

I absolutely appreciate that you did that also for those like me who have no premium membership right now as one of the fist Virtue Premium customers. I just got me a premium account to really show my appreciation.

    Thx a million

    Dan

PS.: Will have to continue to be a PITA, since exactly same issue will come up with ie. Font Awesome and Google Maps etc. … whenever a visitor’s IP is transmitted to a third party 🙁

    Hey,
Can you tell me the password to enter your site? Have you tried editing the virtue call to action from the home edit page?

    Hannah

    #191669

I can’t seem to make it appear. check out my site to see–wesgarvin.com.

The call to action row is just below the packages row. It’s the one with the picture of the phone and says “have questions?” I’d like for the button to say “contact me!”

Thanks for your help in advance,

    Wes

Ben, I am sorry. I don’t know what string replace means. Please clarify. Is that what the plug in does mentioned in your Kadence ssl guidelines? Here is what Really Simple SSL says about deactivating plug in after migrating SSL. Do you think it will be ok to deactivate? Just an FYI…the site I am using to test this out is a new one that I haven’t done anything to much except activate Ascend Premium and added one image. Will be adding one of your Demo contents once the migration to https is done.

    https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/can-deactivate-really-simple-ssl-activating-ssl/
Can I deactivate Really Simple SSL after activating SSL?
Really Simple SSL is built to be very lightweight: the majority of the files is not even loaded when a visitor requests the frontpage. But if you want to remove the plugin after enabling SSL, do NOT use the WordPress deactivation in the plugins overview.
Important! Deactivating the plugin in WordPress reverts your site to http
Most users that do this want do do this because their site has issues on SSL, and expect the plugin to leave the site as it was before the activation. Therefore, the plugin reverts the site to http on deactivation. All changes are removed. Your site_url becomes http again, the .htaccess redirect will get removed.
Is it possible to deactivate Really Simple SSL without losing SSL?
Yes, it is possible. Since version 3.0 of the plugin this can be done by pressing the ‘Deactivate but keep SSL’ button in the plugin settings.

    But please note that:

*The mixed content fixer won’t work anymore
*If you use wp redirect for redirection, this won’t work anymore
*The SSL redirect on rest_api redirect won’t be active anymore

What stays after deactivating the plugin:

    *If enabled, the .htaccess redirect
*Your site_url will stay on https
*Any wp-config fixes that were needed to do the change.

If these last three is sufficient for you, you can deactivate by pressing the ‘Deactivate but keep SSL’ button in the plugin settings. Now the plugin is deactivated, but the deactivation procedure does not run and the site url, wpconfig fix and .htaccess redirect will stay.

I am going to stay with RSimpleSSL plugin. These are some instructions prior to migrating SSL? Input welcomed.

    1. Http references in your .css and .js files: change any http:// into // (FYI…I CHECKED INSPECT IN BROWSER AND ALL .css files start with https://; only http:// files are non domain links; all .js files have https://; so I assume this is essentially done because I changed via Setting>General url and site address to https:)
    2. Images, stylesheets or scripts from a domain without an SSL certificate: remove them or move to your own server.

Here is the plug documentation on what it does:
*The plugin handles most issues that WordPress has with SSL, like when you’re behind a reverse proxy/loadbalancer, or when no headers are passed which WordPress can use to detect SSL.
*All incoming requests are redirected to https. Default with an internal WordPress redirect, but you can also enable a .htaccess redirect.
*The site url and home url are changed to https.
*Your insecure content is fixed by replacing all http:// urls with https://, except hyperlinks to other domains. Dynamically, so no database changes are made (except for the siteurl and homeurl).

    #191651

Either plugin should work fine. It’s up to you what you want to use. All your really need is something to search for the occurrences of http on your site and replace them with https.

If using Really Simple SSL, you’ll have to read their documentation to make sure you’re setting it up correctly. It may differ from our guide and I’m not familiar with the plugin.

I currently have installed, activated, but not yet migrated SSL using Really Simple SSL plugin. I assume this one is fine instead of the one mentioned in Kadence guidelines, right? My host provider suggested Really Simple SSL. The ReallySimpleSSL has over a million active installations versus 400,000 for BetterSearchReplace.

Should I go in to first myself to change WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) to https prior to migrating SSL via plug in? Also check images, scripts, etc. to change to https? I assume the Really Simple SSL plugin will do both of these for me.

    What do you think?

I am about to migrate all my sites to https. Any words of advice? I started with my new client using Ascend Premium Child which I want to use one of your Demo content. Haven’t finished loading Demo content. My host provider has the SSL active on the site via Comodo that they use for their C Panel accounts. They recommended I use Really Simple SSL plugin to activate the SSL on WordPress. It will also redirect all http: to https: they say. I installed and activated it without migrating to SSL yet. Thought to message you on your input to hopefully avoid issues that may pop up. Any advice welcomed.

These are plugin instructions at the point of migrating SSL:
Almost ready to migrate to SSL!
Some things can’t be done automatically. Before you migrate, please check for:
    1. Http references in your .css and .js files: change any http:// into //
    2. Images, stylesheets or scripts from a domain without an SSL certificate: remove them or move to your own server.
    3. It is recommended to take a backup of your site before activating SSL
You can also let the automatic scan of the pro version handle this for you, and get premium support, increased security with HSTS and more! Check out Really Simple SSL Premium

Flush rewrite rules on activation (deselect when you encounter errors)

Try adding this CSS to Theme Options> Advanced Settings:

    @media (min-width: 992px) and (max-width: 1200px) {
    .staff_item_info h3 {
        min-height: 70px;
    }}

If that doesn’t work for you can you please post a login so I can see the site? You can mark the post as private and only Kadence Themes will be able to see it.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

ok, are you making sure that plugin is not loading google fonts?

If you can post a link to your site that would help if you’re seeing google fonts load but you have it turned off I would be able to tell you where it’s coming from.

    Hello,

As long as you have not selected any fonts that you didn’t upload to your site, the theme wont load them. You shouldn’t have to take any further action.
