Hello,
You can do this with shortcode. Rather than add the posts via the Home Layout section, place this shortcode either in the page content area of your home page, or enable the home widget area and add it to a text or visual editor widget in Appearance> Widgets:
[blog_grid orderby=rand items=2 columns=2]Let me know if the shortcode option works for you.

In forum: Pinnacle ThemeAugust 8, 2018 at 11:40 am #198256Hey,
That isn’t an option. You could enable the excerpt to show and add your value and description into a custom excerpt box in your post. Else you would need to create a child theme and manually pull in that meta data into the portfolio grid loop.Ben

Hey Lara,
Can you specify which page elements you’re having issue with? I can’t see anything obviously wrong.
There isn’t really a way to use page builder on category pages, unless I”m overlooking something.
One option would be to add the posts with shortcode or widget in page builder, then add the other widgets above.
An example of blog post shortcodes by category would look like this:
[blog_posts type="grid" orderby="date" items="4" cat="photos"]Here are shortcode options:

[portfolio_posts columns="4" items="12"]Ben
In forum: Ascend ThemeIn reply to: Alignment on Kadence Slider seems to always be off
Hi Ben, I am really baffled by this. I click the align center horizontally button and nothing happens. When I first enter the text, then click the button, it aligns centrally but does seem to be off center (slight towards the right). Following your advice from a previous post I made, I never change the grid size once I’ve added a slide.
Have you any thoughts as to why I may be seeing this Ben?
Cheers

Hello,
You can add an Ascend: post grid widget to your sidebar and set it up to only show a certain category within the widget settings.
Another option would be to add the posts via shortcode like this:
[blog_posts type="grid" orderby="date" items="4" cat="photos"]Just replace the “cat” with whatever category you want to display, and paste the shortcode into a text widget within your sidebar.
More shortcode options can be found here:
http://docs.kadencethemes.com/ascend-premium/shortcodes/Let me know if that works for you.

Hi Sarah,
1. Try changing the number of columns to 2.2. Do you want all our posts to open in a new tab? You would need to use a child theme. Do you currently have a child theme set up?
3. Just add a coma after your id then add the next. Like this:
[blog_posts ids="1416,3547,3942" items="3" type="grid" column="2"]Hope that’s helpful!

In forum: Virtue ThemeHi,
I have added styling (line breaks etc) to the content, and would like this to show instead of the default excerpt (which removes all styling).
This is my shortcode:
[staff_posts orderby=”date” order=”ASC” items=”16″ content=”full” link=”false” columns=”4″ height=”270″]
Could you please let me know where I am going wrong? Thanks

July 27, 2018 at 2:28 pm #197205You can use:
[blog_post ids="12" items="1" type="grid" column="3"]Just change 12 with the id of your post.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for that, I tried the css code but wasn’t entirely happy with the way the cropped images looked. But, thanks to your explanation of how the theme actually responds to the different options, I have now managed to get the masonry grid to behave the way I want it to using the slider option. Just so you know, it’s the terminology on the Standard Post Options (In Post Edit) that was confusing me quite a bit. But all is clear now. And I really like the way it all looks now. Thank you for your time.
Andrew.

I don’t mind if the slider is there or not, I just want consistency.
To be clear, you say: “The grid won’t differentiate between portrait and landscape since it’s a grid layout. The standard post layout would show a different output since it’s in a list and there is space for a landscape output.”
That is not the case. And this is precisely my problem. I have tried that. When I add a post slider image to all posts, some thumbnails on the grid appear on the grid in landscape format, so the grid thumbnails are different sizes. When I change the defualt summary in theme options to an image setting, the same thing happens.
It looks ridiculous, but I have just done what you say so that you can see what I mean. All i have done now is change the theme Options Blog Post summary default to an Portrait Image option.
Go take a look, half of them appear as grid square, others in Landscape:

July 26, 2018 at 3:08 pm #197143ok, I’m confused. You don’t want the slider in your grid or do you? If the default is set for a slider then the theme will try to make a slider. It will look for images set up in the post slider images meta box and if that is empty it will look for images uploaded to the post that are “attached” to the post.
So if you want all your posts to be the same in the grid you either need to make sure every post has “post slider images” or just set the default summary to an image setting.
The grid won’t differentiate between portrait and landscape since it’s a grid layout. The standard post layout would show a different output since it’s in a list and there is space for a landscape output.

For Blog Post Default I have chose ‘Portrait Image Slider’
(I previously tried Landscape Image Slider’ but this didn’t seem to make a difference).
With regards to the post summary options that I’ve selected for each post, I will start with the most recent first:
1. ‘site default’ for:
http://gardeningnomad.com/red-clover-increasing-biodiversity-improving-soil/
(If I select anything else for this one it messes up either the head content in my actual post or the thumbnail size on the category grid)
2. ‘site default’ for:

3. ‘site default’ for :

4. ‘site defauly for:

5. ‘site default’ for

…and on the other category archive grid post where this is happening I have exactly the same Post Options (no images, just site default for all options) with opposite results:

Hi Hannah,
That’s good to know regarding the excerpt length, thanks. The problem with the thumbnail slider can be seen if you look at this category grid
http://gardeningnomad.com/portugal/exploring/
The first thumbnail is just one static image, the second thumbnails is a carousel type of slider with lots of images.
I want this to be consistent, either all just one image or all sliding images from the post (the second option is preferable)
I didn’t intentionally ask the theme to have some sliding thumbnails, they were generated automatically using images chosen from the blog posts. If I could know at least why the theme is doing this and then I can make sure everything is consistent and that all the thumbnails are slider thumbnails (and hopefull be able to determine which images appear in the sliders).
Hope that makes sense.
Andrew.
In forum: Virtue ThemeI have a full-page Virtue Blog Category Archive Grid Post Summary and the thumbnail slider doesn’t seem to work for all posts.
I can’t figure out why it works in some cases and not in others.
It might be due to the problems I’m having getting image dimensions right for the various thumbnails… In some cases I have a feature image which is square, so that it looks right in the thumbnails and on the same post I have a slider image as the head content in landscape format, as that looks better (but I only have one static image in the actual head content of my post, as that is what I want). Despite this, the slider preview on category archive grid page seems to work in some cases.
Note: I don’t actually want a slider at the top of my blog posts, but I do it this way because of the way images appear on the facebook thumbnail preview when I share posts there… unless I have it set a slider, I can’t always generate a thumbnail image on the facebook sharing thing (even after going to the facebook sharing debugger *Login to see link )
Any help would be appreciated.
Andrew.
