    Topic: Slow loading

    #12310

    Hi,

    I’ve installed the Virtue premium and added all of my content.
    To my disappointment, the site seems to be loading very slowly.
    First of all, the Kadence Slider took 5-10 seconds before displaying the first slide. I tried to reduce the image sizes (to about 100kb) but it was still just as slow. Instead I changed the whole slider and used the Revolution Slider, which loads instatly.
    However, the Featured Products and Latest Blog Posts still takes ages to load, at least 5-10 seconds. Which means that the slider loads and starts animating, while the rest of the page remains blank.
    The site can be found here:

    I just tried installing W3 Total Cache (and changing the settings as recommended by the developers), but the site is still slow…

    Is there any way to speed things up? I cant have the users waiting for 10 seconds before browsing the site =/

    Hi,

    Since I’ve installed Kadence, I have not been able to preview the blog posts or new pages. I can only see them once they are published. I tried clearing my cache, but nothing changes (using Firefox). I get an “not found” error.

    Thanks!

    Thanks Ben. This worked for the search font size but the social media icons remain the same size, whether I use 4px or 40px. I’ve cleared both server and browser cache. Could the height of the topbar be limiting how large the icon size can be?

    That would be where the super cache comes in, you have to clear it each time you change anything. And you can’t just deactivate, you need to clear the check then turn if off then deactivate.

    WP Super Cache is for speed, and it caches the page and the css so that on each refresh the site doesn’t have to reload the content I really don’t recommend using it while developing because with every change you make you will have to clear the cache for it to show on the front.

    As for adding a spam catch to the comments forum there are plugins out there for this, like http://wordpress.org/plugins/si-captcha-for-wordpress/

    I have the WP Super Cache installed. When a new user wants to comment on a post, isn’t that suppose to work for that alos? I tested it by logging out and trying to submit a reply. All it ask for was name, email, etc., and then submit. shouldn’t there be a Cache there?

    Hey,
    Yes, I’ve never heard of all this happening but it’s good to know all the htaccess file can be emptied. Did you just save your permalinks to get it all back?

    I know I have always cleared my cache and turned everything off before deactivating. Anyway yes you can delete the folder now that it’s removed.

    Ok Ben, got it
    For some reason the w3 total cache uninstall deleted htaccess, or deleted its contents
    The filesize was 0
    So rewriting was gone along with other stuff
    Everything seems ok now, the slider came back about 5 mins after the cache dir was deleted – co-incidence? 🙁

    I presume I’m ok to delete the w3tc-config directory that was left.

    Tks, John

    I have searched the forum
    —————————
    Ben, things have been going really well in setting the theme up.
    However today the site was hanging saying “waiting for cache”
    So, even though w3 total cache was disabled, I uninstalled it.
    Immediately after, all the shop, shop category paths don’t work
    (also the slider images and normal pages)
    Almost everything is now broken.

    I have a backup from yesterday, but I don’t want to use it yet, because it also has the disabled w3 total cache in it.

    Site is intenze.co.nz

    Any idea on what the uninstall of w3 total cache did?
    The uninstall left the cache directory there with a bunch of folders and files, I tried deleting that just now, no difference
    there’s also a “w3tc-config” directory there.
    I ran through the woocommerce tools, no difference either.

    Thank you for your help, John

    Hey,
    Glad your enjoying the theme.

    1. To help with the loading I recommend using a plugin like w3 total cache which will really make a difference in how the site loads.

    As for making it hidden until the page loads you can add this css to the theme options > custom css box:

    .body {
    opacity: 0;
    }

    There is javascript that will make the body opacity 1 once the JS loads.

    2. There isn’t really an option for this, But with a little creativity I could look into adding one. Would you want the text to be in the center? The tricky part would be positioning the text. if it needed to be custom then your best bet would be using the revolution slider.

    After you turned if off in the portfolio page did you clear your cache?

    I just did it with chrome so I’m guessing you need to clear your browser cache.

    Did you clear your cache? This works fine for me when I test.
    Yes the numbers refer to a px size.

    Hey,
    So if your page loaded showing:

    “Settings have changed, you should save them!
    error(s) were found!
    warning(s) were found!”

    Then that means the javscript and css in the admin is cached in your browser and it’s not loading the new stuff. You need to clear your browser caching or switch browsers.

    Hello, I’m having a very strange problem with mobile slider. On the theme I have it set to off. I’ve cleared all the caches on W3 Total Cache and also on the browser on the phone. When I first go to the site ( everything is fine, there is no slider. But when I reload the page I get the slider. I’ve tried this with Firefox and Chrome on two different phones. I’ve even reinstalled Firefox and I’ve updated to the latest version of the theme. Does anyone know why this is happening?

    #11082

    Thanks Ben, I had tried those tools, but issue returns as soon as I put a new item on sale, unless I delete the transient the new sale item never shows up on the list, no idea why. No cache plugin enabled, Woo support suggested I check with my host to see if they are doing some sort if server caching, but for whatever reason the transients never get replaced nor timeout. Such a pain.

    Decided to just add the following code to functions.php, to delete that specific transient any time I edit a product.

    // DELETE ON SALE TRANSIENTS WHEN POST SAVED

    function delete_sale_transients() {
    	global $post;
    	if( $post->post_type == 'product' ) {
    		delete_transient( 'wc_products_onsale' );
    	}
    }

    add_action( 'save_post', 'delete_sale_transients' );

    It seems to have done the trick.
    Thanks for your help.
